Echo Lake State Park sits just outside North Conway village, at the foot of White Horse Ledge and Cathedral Ledge. It is a small, clear lake with a sandy beach on one end and sheer granite rising over the water, and it is one of the few White Mountains ceremony spots where grandparents, kids, and everyone in between can simply walk from the car to their seats.
Most of the famous White Mountains views ask something of your guests: a hike, a steep path, a cliff edge. Echo Lake asks for nothing. The beach is right by the parking area, the ground is flat sand, and the backdrop is the same granite people drive hours to see. That makes it the natural choice for a family ceremony, and the perfect second act after private vows up on the ledge.
An easy loop trail circles the lake through the pines, so portraits do not have to stop at the beach. Walk a few minutes and you have quiet shoreline, reflections of the cliffs, and trees on every side.
In September 2026, Caitlin and John married on the Echo Lake beach in front of eighteen family and friends, with white chairs set on the sand and the ledges above the far shore. The two parks are minutes apart and managed from the same office, which makes them the best two-location day in the Mount Washington Valley. Our favorite version: portraits and private vows on top of Cathedral Ledge, then down to the beach for the guest ceremony with the cliff you just stood on towering above the water. Or reverse it and save the ledge for sunset.
New Hampshire has two famous Echo Lakes, and couples mix them up constantly. Echo Lake State Park, this page, is in North Conway below Cathedral Ledge and White Horse Ledge. The other Echo Lake sits in Franconia Notch State Park, below Artist Bluff and Cannon Mountain, about an hour west. Both are beautiful, with different rules and different permits.
